Where the case clearly wins
C9 LED bulbs
The 500-count case works out to $0.638 per bulb, against $0.798 in 25-packs. Twenty 25-packs would total $399.00 for the same 500 bulbs, so the case saves $80.00. The case price equals about 16.0 packs, so if you need 16 packs or more, buy the case and keep the extra bulbs as replacements.
Mini light strands
Minis show the largest gap. A single 6-inch spacing mini strand lists at $14.50, while the 24-strand case works out to $10.83 per strand. For 4-inch spacing strands it is $15.00 each against $12.46 per strand in the 24-strand case. If you are wrapping trees or outlining several bushes, 18 or more strands is the point where a case costs no more than singles.
Plugs, stakes and O clips
Male plugs and female plugs both drop from $0.760 to $0.699 each in 1,000-count cases. Light stakes go from $0.860 to $0.800. C9 O clips go from $0.250 to $0.228. These are real but modest savings, and they only matter once you need close to a full case.
Where the smaller pack is cheaper

A case can still make sense for other reasons, such as fewer boxes to handle on a job site. But if the goal is the lowest price, buying these two items in packs costs less at these listed prices.
How to calculate the break-even point yourself
- Divide the case price by the pack price. That is the number of packs the case is "worth."
- Round up to the next whole pack. If you need at least that many packs, the case costs the same or less.
- Then ask whether you will use the extras. Leftover C9 bulbs become replacements; leftover clips can wait for next season. Leftover specialty colors are harder to use up.
